Small Plane Crashes Onto Major New Jersey Highway

A small plane has crashed on Interstate 287 in northern New Jersey, the Federal Aviation Administration reported Tuesday.
The plane went down near Exit 33 in Morris Township.
State Police Trooper Christopher Kay says there is a report of three possible deaths in the crash near Harding.
Shona Sternberg of Hillsborough told NJ.com that the plane came from the west and smacked down on the highway. Sternberg said she didn’t hear any noises but saw an explosion when the aircraft hit the highway.
“There was a lot of fire and big black smoke,” she said. “I could smell burning, burnt rubber. You see something happening, you know it’s going to crash and you can’t do anything.”
NBC News reported the aircraft was a Socata, single engine plane, Model TBM 700 and it was registered to Cool Stream LLC of Manhattan. The plane had departed nearby Teterboro airport.
Helicopter footage from News 12 New Jersey shows charred wreckage in the median and on the highway itself.
